Oregon State University (OSU), Oregon’s land grant institution, seeks a strategic and experienced leader to guide the next chapter of innovation and growth as Vice Provost for Enrollment Management (https://enrollmentmanagement.oregonstate.edu/) (VPEM).
The only R1 public university to have achieved 28 consecutive years of enrollment growth, Oregon State University serves over 38,000 students with more than 5,000 faculty and staff, including a fast-growing OSU Ecampus, which has ranked in the top 10 nationally by U.S. News & World Report for 10 consecutive years. With more NSF funding than all other Oregon comprehensive universities combined, OSU is one of only three institutions in the United States to hold land, sea, space, and sun grant designations, and it is Oregon’s only institution to hold both the Carnegie R1 (very research-intensive) designation and the Carnegie Community Engagement classification. OSU is an internationally renowned public research institution that attracts students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries. Through its Corvallis and Bend campuses, a leading marine science center in Newport, downtown facility in Portland, agricultural research experiment stations, Extension offices, and research forests, OSU has a presence in all 36 Oregon counties.
Central to OSU's mission is its commitment to providing exceptional 21st-century teaching, scholarship, research, discovery, innovation, and engagement. As Oregon’s largest university, OSU offers more majors, minors, and special programs than any other institution in the state. OSU's research enterprise is distinguished by excellence across various disciplines and a strong upward trajectory, with research expenditures rising 20 of the last 22 years, to a record $422 million in fiscal year 2024.
OSU’s record of total headcount enrollment increases reflects its strength among public, R1 universities and the institution’s commitment to serving learners across modalities. The University's 2024-2030 strategic plan, Prosperity Widely Shared: The Oregon State Plan (https://leadership.oregonstate.edu/strategic-plan), calls on OSU to be a university where every student graduates. As such, strategic enrollment management, student success initiatives in academic and student affairs at the university and college levels, and scholarship support are top priorities. The latter is a key fundraising goal in Believe It: The Campaign for Oregon State University (https://fororegonstate.org/campaign/campaign).
Building upon considerable momentum and success, the VPEM will advance strategic enrollment management at OSU and bring vision and coordinated strategy to enrollment marketing, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, and retention across levels, locations, and modalities. A highly visible and collaborative leader, the VPEM reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President and serves as a member of the Provost’s senior leadership team. The VPEM will guide the University’s efforts to set and fulfill strategic enrollment goals; identify new and creative means to grow enrollment at the undergraduate and graduate levels; advance the University’s marketing around recruitment, retention, and completion efforts; enhance access by optimizing scholarships and aid; harness data and technology to maximum benefit; and provide outstanding support to all learners in their effort toward academic success and graduation.
The successful candidate will provide the vision and tactics to lead the development and help guide the execution of a forward-looking, comprehensive enrollment strategy for OSU. They will bring the creativity, energy, integrity, personal qualities, and professional experience to inspire a dedicated team and garner the trust and collaboration of colleagues across the University. OSU’s next VPEM will demonstrate administrative ability and competence; proven experience in developing and executing a strategic enrollment management plan; and the technical skill necessary to guide financial aid efforts, data analysis, and systems utilization. A record of attracting and serving a diverse student body, supporting a multicultural university, and creating a respectful environment that embraces all individuals is essential.
